It has nothing to do with Windows Media Player. lol (No idea if WMP is covered under the Fair usage act, could be though) If that's not the case they're basically making money off Microsofts ♥♥♥♥ without asking them. Oh, I didn't realize that no one could re-distribute it at all, that's a shame, although I'd assume considering they're making money off a game, and the game needs WMP to function (for what ever reason) they've spoken to microsoft about it, so I'm not sure why they wouldn't bundle it if that's the case. It's not the same as DirectX or Visual C++ which CAN be redistributed.

That's why it does not came in ANY game at all nor software for that matter. The N edition is for Europe, where they forced Microsoft NOT bundle a Media Player (Windows Media Player) nor Internet Explorer because it's anti conpetitive.īy EULA, no one can redistribute this, because basically, it also installs Windows Media Player. Originally posted by SkyNET (Waiting is Painful!): I'm not sure about that, but Arguably, the game is made for Windows systems (I have no idea if it works on Linux/Mac), And these Media Feature Packs are 1) A requirement to actually play, but 2) part of windows normally, just the N versions have it cut out (i presume to save space), and it's easily installable on the N version if you need it, so I'm not too sure where this falls under but I don't see why it should be a major issue to just check if it's needed, Like you said Direct X / C++ etc don't come with windows as standard, but this does and it ommited for some reason on the N version, but is also easily installabe from their website. I *think* this can't be redistributed by EULA. That it's quite a big oversight not being compatable with N versions, and while this is an easy fix, IMO something like this should be installed with the game if it's that needed (on windows systems anyway) Originally posted by Deadscale:I would also like to point out that if any Higher ups read this. Now I'm from the UK, hence why these are En-Gb sites, so if they don't work just google your respective Windows edition + Media Feature Pack download and it should be one of those.Īfter installing it, hopefully it works just fine like mine did.

The MFPlat.dll error occurs when you haven't for a certain Media Feature pack for your windows version, most notably Windows N versions do not have this pack installed (I'm on Windows 7 N). And since this hadn't been mentioned I thought i'd throw this up here for those who still can't get it to work. Some quick google searching came up with the solution.
something to do with not having an MFPlat.dll. or that.Īfter nothing worked, I went to the folder and attempted to start the game and got hit by an error. Howdy peeps, Like many a person, My MGS wouldn't start every time I pressed play, a quick dash to the Disscussions showd that it Could be my controller doing it, or this.
